- Ssalt & pepper
The ingredient list for this delicious toast is short, but the choice of ingredients determines a lot of the final taste for this delicious toast. Let me give you a few ideas of what ingredients work well for this toast.
Bread: For this avocado toast, I’d recommend going with a nice, sturdy bread with a good crust. I went with a German-style grey bread today, which is made from a mix of rye and white bread flour. I’d recommend going with any bread you’d also like to eat otherwise.
Avocado: A beautiful avocado toast needs, of course, avocado. Pick a nice, ripe one for the ultimate avocado creaminess.
Za’atar: I like to infuse this toast with some Middle Eastern spices. For this, I am using za’atar. Za’atar is the perfect all-star spice blend for me. I can recommend buying some or making your mix. It goes so well with so many dishes! Check out how to make za’atar yourself here:
Olive oil: For this avocado toast with olive oil, I’d recommend using an extra virgin olive oil with lots of taste. Some of the native ones have such a strong taste that they can almost add some spice to this toast.
Pickles: For the pickles, I went with two of my favorite pickles: Pickled garlic and pickled red cabbage. Their tangy flavor cuts so well through the avocado. Otherwise, pickled onions can make a fantastic addition as well. All these pickles are super easy to make at home, and it’s always great to have them on hand.
Mustard: Lastly, for some sweetness, I am adding some Bavarian sweet mustard. It’s quite a niche ingredient for most people outside of Germany, but it is one of my favorite additions to avocado toasts. If you can get your hands on sweet mustard, this is my secret tip for leveling up your avocado toast game. If not, the toast will taste great nevertheless!
Avocado Toast with Olive oil, Za’atar and Pickles Recipe:
Once you have your ingredients ready, making this avocado toast is super simple.
Firstly, I like to give the bread a good toast. You can do this in a toaster, a grill, or simply in a pan.
Next, slice the avocado in half and remove the pit. Use a fork to mash up the avocado and spread an even, thick layer on the toasted bread. I like to have some bigger pieces of avocado in there for texture.
Now, you can finish the avocado toast with all these delicious toppings. Give the avocado toast a good sprinkle of za’atar spice before garnishing it with pickles and sweet mustard. Additionally, I like to add a pinch of flakey salt and freshly ground black pepper. Finally, finish the avocado toast with a good drizzle of your olive oil, and enjoy it right away!
I hope you enjoyed this avocado toast with olive oil, za’atar, and pickles as much as I did. Let me know what you think in the comments!
