Today, let me present you my favourite way of eating falafel: The delicious falafel wrap. After making crispy falafel, I thought this recipe would be the perfect follow-up! Once you have your falafel on hand, these wraps are super easy and quick to make. They make falafel a super nutritious, filling and delicious meal. These falafel wraps combine a mix of fresh vegetables, crispy falafel and dressing. With that, they fuse complementing tastes, textures and vibrant colours into one delicious wrap. Let’s go ahead and make them before I get too carried away writing about them. I’m already getting hungry again!
Ingredients for this Falafel Wrap Recipe:
- Crispy falafel
- Pita wraps
- Romaine lettuce
- Tomatoes
- Cucumber
- A pickle of choice (I used my delicious pickled red cabbage, pickled turnips are another fantastic choice)
For the Sauce:
- Soy yoghurt
- Tahini
- Lemon
- Salt
Optional Additions:
- Hot sauce
- Hummus
- Muhammara
- Pomegranate seeds
- Parsley
- Crispy fried pita bread
- Tabbouleh
These falafel wraps leave lots of room for customisation. I like the above-listed veggies, falafel and some pickles as the basis. But it doesn’t have to stop there: I love all the listed additions in my falafel wrap. Sometimes, when I have some left, I go all in and add tabbouleh! Crispy fried pieces of pita makes a satisfying, crunchy addition. Feel free to play around with these wraps until you find your favourite version. Today, I am keeping it simple and only finishing them with a bit of hot sauce and a generous spoonful of hummus!
How to make Falafel Wraps:
Firstly, we need to sort out our falafel situation: I have a recipe on how to make beautiful homemade falafel here. For that, you will need to prepare the falafel mix a bit in advance. I like to soak the chickpeas for making the mix already a night before making the falafel wraps.
Once the falafel mix is sorted, let’s prepare our other ingredients. Wash your veggies, and dice them. I like to have the salad and dressing ready, so I can assemble the wrap when the falafel is still fresh and hot! Next, dice the veggies. If the cucumber has a lot of seeds, you might want to get rid of them by taking them out with a teaspoon. Mix all the vegetables in a bowl and season lightly with some salt.
To make the delicious yoghurt tahini dressing, add spoonfuls of the tahini and soy yoghurt to a bowl. Squeeze out some lemon juice, and add it together with some salt. Whisk the ingredients until well combined. If you want to thin the sauce, mix in 1-2 spoonfuls of water. Here is a more in-depth recipe for this delicious yogurt tahini dip.
Now, let’s make the falafel! I deep-fried mine, but you can pan-fry or bake them as well.
Before assembling the wrap, I like to warm my pita a tiny bit. You can warm it in a hot pan or oven for a minute or two.
Combining Everything in a Delicious Falafel Wrap:
Now, let’s wrap it up (pun intended). I usually go for 3-4 falafel per wrap. Gently press the falafel to break them up just a bit. Top with a generous amount of yoghurt tahini sauce.
Next, add a few spoonfuls of your veggies, followed by the dressing and pickle. Now it’s the time to add any other ingredients you like to have to your falafel wrap. I am adding a touch of sriracha sauce today, that’s all!
Roll the falafel into a nice and tight wrap. You can use some tin foil to keep everything in place. Finish the falafel by topping it with a spoonful of delicious hummus, and that’s it!
Enjoy, and let me know what you think of this falafel wrap recipe!
