Kale Chips Recipe (Simple & Delicious)

Kale Chips

Ever had kale chips? They are a fantastic snack. Kale chips are super easy and quick to make and provide a healthy alternative to other chips. I made these delicious vegan fusion tacos a few days ago and had a bunch of fresh kale left over. And as I always like a good snack, I thought its finally time to make some of these crispy goodies again. And rhis kale chips recipe is so simple. It’s the perfect spontaneous snack.

You only need kale and a drizzle of olive oil. You can also customize the taste by adding any spices to your liking. I am going with a touch of sea salt, garlic powder and smoked paprika today. But don’t let that constrain your creativity! Vinegar and salt, a crack of black pepper, chilli, or curry powder, there are endless possibilities for a delicious flavour!

What makes Kale Chips Healthy:

Kale is branded a superfood for a good reason: It contains extensive amounts of vitamins A and C. Furthermore, it has high amounts of potassium, fibre, folate, and calcium, making it a vital source of nutrients for your overall health. Also, while many normal potato chips are high in calories, you can make kale chips crispy and tasty using a minimal amount of oil. Therefore, they are a low-calorie snack loaded with flavour and healthy nutrients! By keeping the temperature low when baking them, we also ensure the olive oil remains a nice and healthy source of fat.

  • Smoked paprika

Crispy Kale Chips Recipe:

Preparing the Kale

Firstly, wash your kale, and dry it properly. Then, tear your kale into bite-sized chunks, and remove the bigger stems. The kale will shrink quite a bit after baking, so you can keep the pieces on the larger side. Put your kale in a bowl, and dress it with olive oil and seasonings. Give the kale a good mix to ensure it is evenly covered with oil, salt and spices.

How to make Kale Chips:

Preheat your oven to 120° celsius. Keeping the temperature low will preserve the flavour of the olive oil and kale and give you nice crispy chips. Spread the kale evenly on a baking tray, and make sure that the kale is not piling up. Instead, distribute the kale across multiple baking trays and spread the leaves out nicely. This will make sure everything crisps up evenly.

Kale spread out

Put your kale in the oven and let it bake for 20 minutes. You can flip the kale halfway to ensure everything toasts evenly, but for me, this wasn’t even necessary. Keep a good eye on the chips for the last few minutes, as they can burn quickly. Especially if the heat in your oven varies between the front and the back like my oven does.

Take your kale chips out of the oven, and let them rest and cool down. They should be nice and crispy now. Check for seasoning, and add spices or salt to your liking. You can now serve the chips in a bowl and enjoy them!

How Long will the Kale Chips keep:

They are definitely best when eaten fresh! If you have some leftovers, you can store them in an air-tight container for 1-2 days. But that rarely happens to me. They are too irresistible!

I hope you enjoyed this kale chips recipe. In my opinion, they are a perfect guilt-free snack. I’ll have mine while watching some TV now! Let me know what you think in the comments, and enjoy!
