Are you looking for the perfect refreshing summer drink with a little caffeine kick? Then look no further. This espresso soda is simple and quick to make and makes a light, refreshing and delicious drink on any hot day!

Ingredients you need for making espresso soda

Ingredients for espresso sodas (sugar, coffee, lime, ice and carbonated water) in bowls on wooden underground
  • 2 shots of Espresso
  • 1 Lime
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • Ice cubes
  • Carbonated water

Firstly, you will need two shots of espresso. Use any espresso you like! If you don’t want caffeine, you can use decaf for this recipe. For additional tang, I like to add lime juice to this drink. It pairs so nicely with the coffee notes. To balance the flavor, we will need some sweetness. I like to dissolve white sugar in the espresso for this. If you have simple syrup on hand, this will work perfectly to sweeten the drink as well. Lastly, ice cubes and carbonated water are needed. I like strongly carbonated water for this beverage!

How to make espresso soda:

Making the espresso soda is super simple. Firstly, let’s take care of the coffee. Brew two cups of espresso. Sweeten the espresso to your liking. Let the espresso cool to room temperature before combining the ingredients.

When the espresso is nice and cool, take your glasses of choice, and fill them with ice. Squeeze the juice of half a lime into the glass before pouring in the sweetened espresso shot. Top the drink with carbonated water.

That’s all there is to this simple but delicious drink. It is so refreshing, just a perfect lazy summer beverage!

Variations to this espresso soda:

This basic version of this espresso soda is all I crave on most days. But this recipe leaves a lot of room for customization: Feel free to experiment with it, until you find the version you like most for yourself.

  • Try different sources of sweetness, and vary the amount: Sometimes, I enjoy this drink with very little sweetness, which makes it extra refreshing. Cane sugar or maple syrup can bring a different note to the espresso soda.
  • You can add other syrups for flavor as well. Vanilla or chai syrup can make nice additions as well.
  • Different garnishes, such as orange slices, mint, basil, or lime, will give the espresso soda distinct notes.
