It is a simple seasonal twist on garlic bread, using wild garlic instead. With wild garlic being in season right now, this delicious recipe is the perfect way to call spring during a lazy evening in front of the television, for the first barbecue of the season, or as a party food.
Ingredients for making Wild Garlic Bread
- Baguette
- Wild garlic butter
Today, we are going the nice and simple route of using a store-bought, high-quality baguette for this recipe. These are from a local bakery around, and they work perfectly for this recipe. You can make this recipe using other breads such as Ciabatta as well.
To infuse that bread with the delicious wild garlic flavor, we will make wild garlic butter. Making wild garlic butter is super simple, needing only wild garlic, salt, and a tasty vegan butter substitute.
I picked my wild garlic fresh from my grandparent’s garden, where it grows in abundance during this time of the year!
Be Careful if you Forage Wild Garlic:
Make sure to educate yourself if you decide to forage your ingredients! There are numerous poisonous plants to confuse wild garlic with, such as lily of the valley, autumn crocuses, corn lilies, and others, which can easily be a deadly error! You should always consult with a professional when foraging, but I’d recommend going the safe route and buying them in the store when in season.
How to make Wild Garlic Bread
Making wild garlic bread is super easy. Firstly, we will make our homemade wild garlic butter, which takes only 15 minutes to make. I’d recommend making more of it. It pairs fantastically with other dishes such as mashed potatoes, oven-roasted vegetables, or sandwiches!
Once the wild garlic butter is ready, we only need to slice the baguette, fill it, and bake it for 10 minutes.
Making the Wild Garlic Butter:
Firstly, let the vegan butter substitute warm to room temperature. In the meantime, you can wash the wild garlic. Pat it dry, or use a salad spinner to ensure it is dry before proceeding with the recipe.
Next, cut the wild garlic and combine it with the vegan butter substitute and salt. Use an immersion blender to properly incorporate the wild garlic until you have a nice, fragrant, light-green wild garlic butter.

Filling the Baguette & In the Oven it goes!
First, preheat your oven to 200° C (400° F). Once the wild garlic butter is ready, it is just about slicing the baguette 3/4 through. I went with long diagonal cuts to fit as much wild garlic butter as possible in there. Fill each cut with a generous smear of wild garlic butter before transferring the baguette into the oven. Bake it until nicely golden brown for about 10 minutes.
