We like pomegranate seeds very much, but until now, I have avoided using the fruit because it always went hand in hand with a lot of cleaning. And then, weeks later, you discover red splashes somewhere and wonder how a delicious pomegranate can cause such a mess. Now, I’m so pleased to show you the best way to remove pomegranate seeds while avoiding making a mess!

Ingredients for the best way to remove pomegranate seeds:

  • Pomegranate

Needed Equipment:

A pomegranate lies on a wooden kitchen board, with a kitchen knife next to it. In the background is a large glass bowl filled with water. The base is made of green-painted wooden planks.
  • Bowl with water
  • Knife

How to remove Pomegranate Seeds

First, fill a bowl with water. The bowl must be large enough to submerge the pomegranate in it. Now, score the top where the blossom was and carefully peel off the top. Now, you will see how the white skin inside the pomegranate forms chambers dividing the fruit. Carefully scratch the shell down on the outside of the pomegranate, where the white skin divides the pomegranate.

Then, gently break the pomegranate apart by hand under water along the incisions. Now, work the pieces under water with your fingers to remove the seeds. This way, you can easily separate the white skin from the seeds, which we don’t want as it tastes bitter! This white skin is lighter than the fruity seeds, so it floats to the top and can be skimmed off.

The delicious pomegranate seeds are all collected at the bottom of the bowl. Once finished, you can pour off the water and have the pomegranate seeds without a red splash of juice! The pomegranate seeds can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to a week.

Are Pomegranate Seeds Healthy?

Yes! Pomegranates contain potassium, calcium, iron, vitamin C, and B vitamins. They can help to cover our daily vitamin requirements. They also contain many polyphenols: These have an anti-inflammatory effect and protect cells from damage.
