Ingredients
1 kg apple (4 big apples)
100g flour (all purpose or 550)
75g rolled oats
90g cane sugar
100g vegan butter substitute
8g vanilla sugar
1 tsp cinnamon
2 tsp lemon juice
2 tbsp cold water
Instructions
Combine the flour, cane sugar, vanilla sugar, oats, and cinnamon in a mixing bowl. Cut the butter substitute into small cubes and add to the bowl. Work the ingredients into a smooth dough until the butter substitute is incorporated.
Roll the dough into a ball. Let the dough rest in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes.
Heat the oven to 350°F (180°C). Next, take your baking pan and generously coat it with a vegan butter substitute.
Peel the apples before cutting them into even slices. Discard the core from each apple. Mix the cold water and lemon juice in a bowl and toss the sliced apples into the mixture.
Place the apple slices next to each other until they fill the whole form. Crumble the dough on top of the apples until generously covered.
Bake the apple crisp for 30-45 minutes until golden brown. The apples should be nicely soft.
Serve right away and enjoy!
Notes
A tart and firm apple works best for this recipe. Granny Smith are a great option.
The baking time may vary a bit depending on the type and thickness of your apple slices. I recommend digging in and tasting a slice to make sure the apple crisp is ready.
